The Parade
The 2008 Fremont Solstice Parade begins at noon, Saturday June 21st
Now in its 20th year, the annual Fremont Solstice Parade began in 1989 and has become a favorite citywide community art parade in Seattle's neighborhood of "funky" Fremont. An unparalleled demonstration of free speech, creativity, art and community, we cast a spell of joy, hope and rebirth that spreads from Fremont to the entire universe. We welcome wild, weird, engaging, surprising, delightful, beautiful, collaborative, innovative art of all stripes.

Everyone is welcome to participate! No experience necessary.

Be Part of the Parade
Everyone's welcome to join the Solstice Parade! However, we appreciate it a lot if you can register yourself (or your group) ahead of time. Download the official Parade registration form here.

The Four Parade Rules:

  • No printed words or recognizable logos.
  • No live animals (except guide animals).
  • No motorized vehicles (except necessary wheelchairs).
  • No (real) weapons.

Parade Photography
The Solstice Parade is a wonderful opportunity to capture the sparkeling gems of our community!

Taking pictures from the sidelines, getting snapshots of the parade is part of the fun. However, if you're a wanting to take your big pro-kit out into the street to capture the ensembles up close, you'll need a pass.

There is a new process this year for pro/amature photographers, you must must have a press pass to be in the street taking photos (you do not need a pass to take pictures from the sidelines, this applies to the pro/amature photogs). Photographers may obtain a press pass by attending a meeting Friday June 20th at 8:30 pm, at the Powerhouse, 3940 Fredmont Ave N. There will be an Agreement of Rules that will need to be filled out and signed in exchange for a pass. There are no day of passes being issued except to media.

The Parade Route
The Parade START is just west of downtown Fremont at NW 36th St & 3rd Ave NW. It heads east to Fremont Place and Fremont Ave N, and then continues east along N 34th St to Stone Way. Finally, it turns right onto Northlake Ave N, with a finale at GasWorks Park. Download a full Parade map!

(Insider's tip: the best Parade viewing is where the crowd thins out, towards the second half of the route - especially on N 34th near Stone Way and continuing along Northlake Ave N near Gas Works.)

The Solstice Workshop and Classes
In our year-round home, the Powerhouse, artists and people who love art come together to create the Parade: beautiful and memorable costumes, puppets, and performances. People of all skill levels and backgrounds are welcome to join in.

Our workshop schedule for 2008 is currently being developed. Please check back in soon! If you would like to teach at a workshop, please contact workshops {at }fremontartscouncil.org

Volunteer!
To build a parade takes a citizen's brigade of a zillion artists, organizers and volunteers. We're organizing ourselves into ensembles and volunteer crews, gathering materials, and building wonderful art. May and June are our "all hands on deck" time!

To register or get involved contact us: (206) 547-7440, or if you want to help get the show on the road right away, click here for more volunteer info. Or email our volunteer coordinator at: volunteer {at} fremonartscouncil.org

For any general inquiries or to register your ensemble, email Sara at:

To register for one of our unique Parade Arts classes, or to donate any supplies and materials you think we can use to build our parade, email Lorrie at:

Or...Donate?
Finally, if you're not able to spare us some of your time, you can always send us some of your cash - it will be much appreciated and we promise it will be put to very good use, creating art that enriches everyone. Just contact Katherine at donate {at} fremontartscouncil.org or visit our donations page.

Join us! There's a place for you here.
